Writing Process

Children's Book Example

Follow these writing process instructions for creating your children’s book:

  • Define an electric co-op.
  • Use this website for videos and general information about electricity, and a video explaining the intention and creation of co-ops.
  • Develop an understanding of how co-ops provide electricity in your area.
  • Research historical information about the history of electricity in your area and the co-op closest to your school.
    • Some ways to gather information include:
      • A visit and tour of the closest co-op.
      • Visiting their website.
      • Calling and interviewing an employee of the co-op.
      • Asking if a co-op employee can come speak to your class.
  • Brainstorm potential topics for your story.
  • As you research, consider taking photographs for illustration inspiration.
  • Pre-write and draft your story.
  • Write, edit, and revise your story.
  • Write and illustrate your electronic book using StoryJumper. Or, write on the blank book provided by your local co-op (earlier drafts can be on the printable template).
  • Include an “Author’s Summary” (or short introduction) plus a photo of the author(s) on the inside back cover. Do the same for the illustrator if it’s a different person.
