Registration for the 2025-26 South Carolina Children’s Book Challenge is open to educators and parents of 4th and 5th-grade students, who are invited to write and illustrate a children’s book around this year’s theme, “A Day in the Life of a Lineman.”
Winning entries will be awarded cash prizes as well as an opportunity to have their books published.
Each registered individual or team (2-4 students) can either create an electronic book using the online book creator, StoryJumper. or a physical paper book using this printable template.
Books delivered
After winning the 2024-25 South Carolina Children’s Book Challenge, Uncle Phil and the Electric Adventure, by fifth-graders Sadie Gamble, Ellafair DuRant, Railyn Joyner, and Kayden Crisanti from Laurence Manning Academy and Electra, A Girl’s Journey to Electrical Safety by Ansley Gratzmiller, a fourth-grader at Buist Academy for Advanced Studies have been published and distributed to elementary school libraries across our state.
The winning entries also earned their creators a $500 grand prize and recognition at the South Carolina Statehouse.
Sponsored by the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina, the Children’s Book Challenge encouraged students statewide to create engaging children’s books emphasizing electrical safety. Local electric cooperatives, including Black River Electric and Berkeley Electric, selected books to compete at the state level.
